As any entrepreneur knows, networking is one of the keys to success. In fact, I would go so far as to say networking is a major component of success in life. Finding people who can connect you to the opportunities you desire is a quick route to success.
In the online world, networking is even easier. A single message on twitter can reach thousands. But what is your noise:value ratio? If someone is in your network, how much of what you send out do they use, and how much is just noise to remind people you still exist? Do you provide value or are most of your posts just simply making noise.
As an example, there is someone I am connected to on an online social network. He constantly pushes his services, plugging himself in every message he sends. His noise ratio is so high I can't even see any value. On the opposite side, there are many people I connect to that provide such a high value ratio that I eagerly await messages from them.
What side of the equation do you want to be on?
